Although our formula is free from conventional preservatives, it still passes the industry-standard antimicrobial effectiveness test. We are also committed to a leaving the world a better place – formulas that are biodegradable, cruelty-free and vegan in recyclable packaging.

Not a kitchen recipe

Kinkō was created on a formulation lab benchtop, not a kitchen countertop. We do not use those edible ingredients commonly found in natural deodorant sticks:

  • Baking soda: as an alkaline substance, it disturbs skin's acid mantle and microbiome and can cause rashes.
  • Coconut oil: it is comedogenic and may clog your pores and leave greasy stains on clothes.
  • Citrus and lavender essential oils: their main constituents, limonene and linalool, are allergens. Those essential oils are used to mask body odor whereas our deodorant is fragrance-free and prevents odor to be produced by bacteria.

Biofermentation

The majority of our ingredients is obtained through biofermentation. It is the oldest biotechnology used by mankind, dating back to the end of the Stone Age - to make beer! Fermented beverages and food are staples in many diets, especially in Asia, because of their health benefits.

Although it is not a new technology, microbial fermentation is now the preferred natural alternative to traditional manufacturing processes, because of its environmental friendliness. Instead of depending on chemical plants to synthetize active ingredients or extract them from natural sources with solvents, we use “micro-factories”. We rely on selected and optimized strains of microorganisms to produce, by biofermentation, pure, sustainable and safe ingredients that have a proven impact on our skin and its microbiome.
